Welcome! I am turning this front page into a monthly newsletter. Check in each month for the pattern
of the month feature. Here I will show photos of whimsical ideas using new yarns, featuring new tools I have found,
plus sharing recipes if we're lucky.
February's pattern
is the Woolly Candy Corn. I love this pattern!
its an embellisher's dream. Colorful and simple, a great backdrop for needle felting and embroidery.
For this pattern, I called the Jelly Belly Candy Company for the exact color combinations for ALL
their candy corn for each season. In addition to traditional, shown left, there is Autumn, Christmas,
Valentine's Day and the 2-tone Easter/Spring.
Two Sizes.
One Pattern.
The Candy Corn comes in 2 sizes: small and large, shown
below. The sizes vary from the yarn weights and needle sizes used. After felting, the small candy corn measures
about 3-1/2 inches, and the large, about 5-1/2 inches tall.

Valentine's
Candy Corn.
'Cupid's corn', as it is effectionately
called, uses the colors: creamy-white, pink and red. All three sizes are shown here: small, medium and large. red. The largest
uses 2 strands of worsted weight and size 13 double point needles. It measures about 6 inches high, after felting.
The largest candy corn is embroidered and needle felted to depict "Bee
Mine".
A great way to personalize
your treats!
Spring-time
Candy Corn.
This candy corn is two-tone in color. The top color is creamy-white and the
bottom colors are all pastel: lavendar, green, blue, yellow, and pink.
I
love throwing these into a mix of embellished Woolly Eggs!
Autumn Candy Corn.
This candy corn uses Fallish colors:
creamy-white, orange, and chocolate-brown. Shown here is the smallest size, in which one strand of sport weight yarn and size
7 double point needles are used.
Here a little embroidery
floss and a few beads go a long way!
Christmas Candy Corn.
Here the traditional Christmas colors are used: white, red, and green. When
felting these, throw in 1-2 SHOUT Color Catcher Sheets into the wash with your candy corn. The Color
Catcher sheets help trap the red dyes and prevent bleeding. I usually hand felt the small candy corn to guarantee
against this, as well.
I used Frog Tree
Alpaca sport weight yarn for these, doubling the strands to create the larger candy. This way you can coordinate the colors
in the various sizes.
Recipe Corner
I like to include a recipe at the back of most of my
patterns. I've found over the years that knitters, like myself, cook and bake, and are quick to share their recipes.
Thus, the Woolly Candy Corn pattern is no
different. It has one of my favorite snack mixes, halloween party mix. It is simple and yummy.
For this newsletter, I am enclosing a modified version of it called 'valentine party mix'.
valentine party mix
1 cup chocolate
covered almonds or peanuts
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup Valentine candy corn
1 cup roasted cashews
1 cup Corn Chex cereal
1 cup pretzel
sticks or circles
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix
well with your hands. Store any leftovers in a plastic container with a lid. The mix will keep up to 3 weeks.
Makes 6 cups.
I usually triple this recipe because it goes that
fast!
