For the Love of Detail: Embellishment Workshops

Marie is teaching a series of workshops on the techniques, tools and design ideas she uses when embellishing her own felted projects with personality, detail and whimsy. Each week, she will build on the previous workshop, all coming together in the final workshop with the embellishing of one of five designs on a 4x6-inch notions case. Each class may be taken individually.

For the Love of Detail: Needle Felting
Tuesday, January 24, 2012 6-8:30pm

Learn the tools, techniques and fun of embellishing with a little roving and a sharp needle. Create two-dimensional designs to be used on any felted project: Polka dots, flowers, and different whimsical shapes. This is a great embellishing technique for felted slippers and mittens!

For the Love of Detail: Embroidery

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 6-8:30 pm

Embroidery is a great addition to any needle felt and applique project! At the end of this workshop, you'll know how to embroidery four basic stitches: blanket stitch, feather stitch, chain stitch and the French knot. We will create a sampler using wool yarns and DMC cotton floss.

Use craft felt pieces and a few easy stitches to create two-dimensional designs. Learn how to transform your ideas into simple layered patterns. In this workshop, you'll practice by appliqueing a chickadee sitting in the pine boughs with berries.

Adding beads and buttons is a very simple and inexpensive way to add detail to your project. Buttons and beads add texture and sparkle. In addition, create layers using beads, sequins, and various-sized buttons.

In this workshop, Marie will show you show to put together your Woolly Snowman. She will demonstrate how to do beaded arms, simple French knots and how to make a clay carrot nose (a new and fun addition to snowman making). After the snowmen are put together, we will discuss hats and accessories. Come with your snowman knit, felted and ready for embellishing!

Come to this workshop with your basket of eggs, all knitted and felted, ready for embellishing! Marie will demonstrate some of her favorite embellishing techniques like needle felting, beading and a little bit of simple applique. There will be plenty of time to play and experiment on your own felted eggs. Marie will have LOTS of samples of her felted eggs to inspire your own creativity!

Come knit and felt Woolly Bunnies for all your friends. These bunnies have a tendency to multiply like all good little bunnies do! The first week you will knit your bunny and learn the basics of felting. The second week you will complete your bunny, adding all the fun embellishing details: a face with rosy cheeks, paws and two-tone ears.
